The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, met today with various regional governors and Regional Directorates of Tourism in the country to socialize the new “National Strategy for the Reactivation of the Tourism Sector 2022-2025”.
The objective is to promote tourism in Peru with unique and biosafe experiences.
As it is recalled, before the pandemic, the tourism sector contributed 3.9% of the national GDP, consolidating itself as the third largest generator of foreign exchange in Peru. However, globally, during 2020 and 2021, international tourist arrivals remained 72% below or under pre-pandemic levels.
With the “National Strategy for the Reactivation of the Tourism Sector 2022-2025”, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) projects this year to increase inbound tourism in the country from 9% to 21%.
During his speech, Minister Sánchez highlighted the articulate work with the regions to find joint solutions around the sector.
“The objective of this meeting is to have the opportunity to link the guidelines of the national tourism strategy to advance, collectively, in a country vision. It is a commitment of the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, to support the sector, an important generator of foreign exchange and jobs, both direct and indirect”, indicated the head of the Mincetur.
In addition, he pointed out that work is being done on the constitution of an investment fund of one billion dollars for investment in tourist destinations.
“Peru is sustainable and has a unique biomegadiversity. For this reason, based on a territorial and decentralized approach to the sector, at Mincetur we are making the effort to build an investment fund of one billion dollars to invest in tourist destinations, highlighting the historical, cultural and gastronomic wealth of our country, with special attention to regional cuisines, since Peru is its regions”, highlighted Minister Sánchez.
It should be noted that the socialization meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Isabel Álvarez, and the regional governors of Cajamarca, Mesías Guevara; and from San Martin, Pedro Bogarin.
Also, sixteen directors of foreign trade and tourism regional directorates and managements attended in person, belonging to Loreto, Lima provinces, Callao, Junín, Ica, Moquegua, Arequipa, Tumbes, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Ancash, Huancavelica, Huánuco, San Martin, Cajamarca and Puno.
Dircetures and Gercetures from Amazonas, Pasco, Metropolitan Lima, Cusco, Ayacucho, Madre de Dios, Piura, Ucayali, Tacna and Apurímac also participated virtually.
